While many are rushing around to buy gifts for the holiday season, one local food truck is slowing down to bring warm meals to those who need it most.
On Dec. 21, crowdfunding website “Crowd It Forward” and veteran-owned pizza food truck DC Slices will be feeding lunch to homeless D.C. veterans.
The effort combines support for small businesses with assistance for veterans in need.
“During the holiday season, the least we can do for veterans who put their lives on the line for our freedom is to support their small businesses and to assist those who have fallen on hard times,” said Crowd It Forward founder Kendall Almerico.
The program entitled “the least we can do is buy you lunch” launches in D.C. and will expand to cities across the country in 2014 where Crowd It Forward will partner with a veteran-owned food truck in each city.
“From the humble beginnings of the first event in our nation’s capitol, we look forward to expanding nationwide and helping veteran small businesses and homeless veterans all across the country,” Almerico said.
The program is funded completely by donations through the Crowd It Forward website.
“The least we can do is buy homeless vets lunch,” DC Slices wrote on Twitter. “Spread the word and donate what you can.”
